Ugandan Adoption!

My friend is going to Uganda to meet her three new children. For those of you who don't know, Uganda has had a 3 year residency requirement for adoption. Recently, they have allowed people to receive guardianship and then adopt. There is a huge need and the children are amazing....here is a video of the orphanage my friend is going to...

If any of you are interested in adoption and need more info I will be happy to get more specific info and send to you...

What do you mean about a 3 year residency? Someone has to live in Uganda before they can adopt? If so -- yikes! Or do you mean the child has to be there 3 years?

yes...you would need to live in Uganda for 3 years to adopt. But that was the old criteria...Now it is different....

What is the current criteria? I find it interesting that you talked about a Uganda adoption and the church Leon and I are going to was taking up offerings for an orphanage in Uganda (Amawa, Amawie or somethign like that?) Anyway, if there is no longer a 3 year residency requirement, what are the requirements?

Process is super fast and is new. They lifted the 3 year requirement and now the process consists of getting guardianship and then bringing them over here to complete the adoption. My friend is adopting 3 older kids 6,11,13. The kids may be home in September...they decided to adopt in May or June.

The orphanage she went to is the Royal orphanage. The video you saw was prior to the pastor (heard in the video)...talked his congregation of 125 to build a new building/guesthouse. The facility is excellent by Ugandan standards but still more funding is needed. Maybe that is what your church was helping with....
